Thoughts of a Wandering Gamer

Fall approaches.

As is usual for this time of year, we've got a huge lineup of games right around the corner. Next week, Dark Souls and Rage will be hitting, and after that, it will be impossible to keep up with the flood of awesome games scrambling for holiday shelf space. Below are my top three picks for the next few months:

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Picture
Platform: PC, PS3, Xbox360
Release Date: November 11th, 2011

Oblivion was one of the most expansive and detailed games of this generation and the Elder Scrolls series never fails to impress with its open-world RPG offerings. With updated graphics and a world full of new characters and quests, this will be the game to keep me occupied well into next year.

Uncharted 3

Picture
Platform: PS3
Release Date: November 1st, 2011

If you need any reassurance that Uncharted 3 will be awesome, just pop in Uncharted or Uncharted 2! This game will certainly be a leader in graphics and if you're into cinematic games, there's nothing closer to a movie experience. Even if Naughty Dog doesn't change the series in any substantial way, this will still be a memorable game.

Rage

Picture
Platform: PC, PS3, Xbox360
Release Date: October 4th 2011

Rage is a post-apocalyptic shooter from ID software, the creators of Doom. It looks like a mix between Fallout and Borderlands with a focus on pure shooting action. There's also a large racing element to the game. The graphics are gorgeous and I can't wait to dive into this version of the post-apocalyptic wasteland.

Those are my top three games for the end of the year. There are plenty more great games coming out in the next few months, but these are the three that I personally have my eye on. We've also got Dark Souls, Battlefield 3, Modern Warfare 3, Gears of War 3 and many more awesome games coming down the pipe, so gamers of any taste will surely find something to play.

My Enslaved review is up! You can check it out here. If you liked Ninja Theory's style of storytelling in Heavenly Sword, you'll feel right at home in Enslaved. Monkey and Trip are characters that you can actually care about, and they help make Enslaved an enjoyable experience all the way through.

8-bit and electronic music had a baby: Impostor Nostalgia.

Impostor Nostalgia is a new album from some of the industries top sound designers and composers. It features new tunes from "C418 (Minecraft), Souleye (VVVVVV), Disasterpeace (FEZ), Alex Brandon (Deus Ex), Mick Gordon (Need for Speed Shift), zircon (Monkey Island 2) and many more."

If you have the slightest shred of love for 8-bit, dubstep or electronic music, this album is the perfect fit. It's only $3.99, but you can feel free to pay any amount you want if kickass music is worth more to you. The best part is, you can listen to each track in its entirety before you buy!

I heard the first song and was immediately impressed by how well the classic 8-bit sounds complement the modern electronic music and movement-inducing drums. Every song on the album is distinct and I thoroughly enjoyed each one. This is an extremely tight and well executed collaborative effort, and it needs more recognition!

Click Impostor Nostalgia. You won't regret it.
