PixelJunk Monsters
PixelJunk Monsters is a tower defense game in which you build structures to prevent an enemy invasion. You play in an arena laden with trees that each indicate a buildable area for a tower. Enemies walk, crawl, stomp and fly their way through the level as you stretch your resources to build the right type and amount of towers to crush the opposition.
PixelJunk Monsters oozes charm with its unique aesthetic and music. The tunes will have you in the zone immediately and the graphics, while detailed, air on the side of cartoony. Monsters is one of those games you can pick up and play for a level, only to look at the clock hours later and wonder what happened.
Enemies drop coins and gems which you use to buy new towers and unlock more powerful towers respectively. You can dance at any tower to slowly upgrade it or you can blow a few gems for an instant upgrade. The objective is to keep the enemies from reaching a group of creatures at one end of the level. There are a limited number of the cute little guys and once they’re gone, you lose.
You can also play Monsters with a friend, which is a blast. You team up to build towers and repel the enemies, forming strategies together and honing your tower layout all while fighting over coins and gems (unless you really want to play cooperatively…).
PixelJunk Monsters is a casual game at first glance, but jump in and you’ll get lost in the vibe as you strategize and plan to ward off the monsters.
